I was ten years old when I fell in love with Champagne. Of course, I didn’t drink it at the time. But I remember my grandfather opening a bottle at a family party; and suddenly all the adults became so excited and started acting almost like children. I was instantly captivated and wondered how something so simple could have such a huge emotional impact. That was when I decided that one day, I was going to work for a great Champagne house. Unfortunately, I almost immediately was told that Champagne only comes from France and that the likelihood of a 10-year-old from Finland working there, is non-existent.
It took me almost twenty years of hard work and learning about the industry until my dream came true and I finally stepped through the dark cherry-coloured gates of Krug Champagne with a mission. I had just been hired as their first head of global education and training and was on my way to demonstrate to Maggie the CEO how I was going to train their sales teams and ambassadors.
My presentation was a complete failure. According to Maggie, it was boring and way too technical. She said “People don’t buy products, they buy emotions”. I was devastated and over the weeks that followed I began to realize first that what I really had fallen in love with all those years ago was the emotion that champagne created, and by becoming an “expert”, I had distanced myself and replaced emotion with product knowledge. I knew I had two options “get better or get out”.
I spent the next year learning everything I could about communication skills, storytelling and luxury selling and was amazed not just by what I discovered, but how rare it was for these techniques to be fully utilized by businesses, even in the luxury industry.
Over the years I studied and developed new methods for generating results through communication and experiences and eventually, I decided to start my own company to help others overcome the same obstacles I had faced. As a result, I have been privileged to help some of the most Iconic brands in the world on their journey to create emotional impact.
